Hellion was the first monkey placed with Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers. In 1979, she was placed with recipient Robert Foster; a Boston resident. Hellion was known to be quite bright. Her quick learning style allowed her to assist Foster with various tasks; such as fetching items around the home. She was also known to be michievious at times (she got her hands on a bottle of Brut Cologne and splashed herself!). They were an insepable team for 28 years until Foster passed in 2007.
As Helping Hand's first placement, it is not suprising that the pair garnered a bit of attention! Foster and Hellion had a brief time in the spotlight—from being documented in books to an appearanced on 60 Minutes. Foster recollects Hellion putting on a show even off camera! Hellion's training during the 1970s assisted in developing early training techniques. Many training techniques; such as fetching household items, are still used to this day. We are grateful to both Robert and Hellion for building the foundation on which we build our organization.
